RCMP Investigate Fatal Assault in Downtown Kelowna; 18-Year-Old Victim Identified

KELOWNA, BC — The Kelowna RCMP Major Crimes Unit is investigating a weekend altercation that has left an 18-year-old man dead.


The incident occurred late Friday night into the early hours of Saturday morning near the intersection of Springfield Rd and Benvoulin road. According to police reports, an altercation broke out between two groups of individuals in the downtown core.

Emergency responders located the 18-year-old victim at the scene suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital but has since succumbed to his injuries.


Investigation Underway: RCMP investigators have stated that this appears to be an isolated incident between two specific groups and does not believe there is an ongoing risk to the general public. As of Sunday, no arrests have been formally announced, and the Major Crimes Unit remains on-site collecting evidence.

"This is a senseless tragedy that has claimed the life of a young member of our community," the RCMP stated in a recent release.
